Catherine R. - 16555 Scientific Illustrator from Toronto
As a lifelong illustrator, my career as a designer has been founded on my core drawing skills. I recently completed a Master's degree in Design (OCAD University), for which I completed a thesis about spatial drawing in Virtual Reality. My focus was on scientific approaches to embodied design skills in 3D space: ie. proportional relationships of the human body, rotatary axis of the joints, and neurobiological studies about visual perception. The focus of my thesis was directed towards science because as a visual artist, I have always had a strong interest in anatomy. I studied fine art and animation (both hand-drawn and 3D) as an undergrad student, giving me a strong foundation in both realism and physical movement of the human body. I have worked as a portrait artist as well as a design lead in graphics industries, and I taught college courses in illustration and digital rendering with a graphics tablet for a decade. My experience has made me extremely versatile, enabling me to adapt quickly to new technologies, and to be as detail-oriented as I am effecient in task-management.
