Hello! My name is Jason Hreno. I’m an award-winning writer, director and producer with many cool credits actively looking to expand my client base and network. To this end, I wanted to introduce myself and share a few links to my work / portfolio. I bring a ton (15+ years) of varied and eclectic Film / TV and Broadcast creative leadership and project / team management experience to the table. A former journalist, I worked my way up through the commercials industry in the UK, where I also began writing and directing. I made a few short films with my commercials colleagues and mentors which led to me getting some awesome director gigs on some cool TV shows like Ridley and Tony Scott’s series The Hunger for Showtime. My last film MOTHERLAND ( https://www.amazon.com/Motherland-Sope-Dirisu/dp/B08VBZB7J9 ) which I wrote and directed (back in the UK) stars BAFTA nominee Sope Dirisu and was nominated for a Directors Guild Award. Based on real events about a little-known war zone, it’s a political mystery about a missing person and deals with themes of social justice, displaced peoples and issues of race and colonialism. It’s probably my best dramatic work to date. Directed everything from reality TV (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4366524 ) to True Crime and created, developed and shot sizzle reels that include a Kids early science show (https://vimeo.com/166096034 ) amongst others ( https://hretoricaldevices.com ) as well as several feature scripts and original pilots / series. I have post grad screenwriting (MA) courses from UCLA, a BA (Hons) in English Literature from McGill and a teaching certificate from Cambridge. I speak fluent French and Spanish on top of my mother tongue English. I’m a self-starting, collaborative team player who loves to get the job done on time, on budget to a superior standard. I work quickly and expediently and see projects through from beginning to end and always have fun while I’m doing it. I love story telling in all formats and love creating memorable content that delights, surprises and stays with viewers long after. I’m socially, politically and culturally engaged, an avid reader, consumer and watcher of pop culture and always up on the latest trends locally and globally. I have impeccable presentation, prep and production skills, am a warm, client-reassuring leader who is calm under pressure and instills confidence with diplomacy, tact and polish.
