Matthew F. - 16233 Investment Analyst from Westmount

I am a graduate from the University of New Brunswick with a Master’s of Quantitative Investment Management and am a CFA Level 2 Candidate. I attended St. Francis Xavier University for my undergrad, where I completed my Bachelor of Business Administration (Advanced Major in Finance, Minor in Economics) and was inducted into their President’s Circle of Young Alumni, an award given to less than 5% of the graduating class. I have completed internships in two very different sides of the finance industry whilst completing my undergrad. At the Laurentian Bank of Canada, within their Special Loans department, I learned about the lending process for small and midsized companies. This was an insider’s look at the banking process for when loans had to be restructured or terminated, and the role of the various stakeholders involved. My internship with Jarislowsky Fraser as a research analyst spiked my interest in investments and portfolio management further. Combining this work experience with a Master’s of Quantitative Investment Management has deepened my financial modeling and analytical skills. I deepened my fundamental investment experience by partaking in academic challenges such as the CFA Research Challenge, where I was recognized with an outstanding research award for my work on the CIBC. Similarly, I participated in the CQA Investment Challenge, a quantitative investment challenge, and placed 5th globally. Furthermore, I was part of the team of students who managed The UNB Student Investment Fund, an endowment fund of about $10 million invested in fixed income and public equity securities, I focused on the real-estate sector.
