I earned my PhD degree from ETH, Zurich (Switzerland) and went on to pursue post-doctoral studies at Umeå University (Sweden). Till very recently (February 2022), I was employed as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Biology at Georgia State University, Atlanta (USA). My work extensively entailed drafting, editing, and proofreading federal grant proposals (NIH style) as well as scientific research and review articles. This required in-depth exploration and information gathering from peer-reviewed scientific journals alongside generating, analyzing, and interpreting in-house research data. My responsibilities included collaborating with various internal and external stakeholders/PIs and anchoring intense discussions, which is integral to the process. Since grant proposals are usually built upon interdisciplinary research, I got to liaise with scientists from diverse backgrounds. I was running several research projects centered around racial disparities in breast cancer, wherein biological and epidemiological studies were being conducted. I also have experience in mentoring graduate students. Prior to this, I worked extramurally as a scientific consultant with the research group and published several scientific articles and learned the ropes of grant proposal writing. Currently, I continue to be contractually employed by the same PI (affiliated with the University of Alabama, Birmingham) as an external scientific consultant. I am assisting the research group and PI with grant writing and science writing/proofreading. My diverse and lengthy research experience has spanned the fields of plant genetics and molecular biology, microbiology, cancer biology, and machine learning.
